Project Description:
The project focuses on supporting The Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion (REI) learner cohorts through the dissemination of experiential education activities using Simulated Person Methodology (SPM), based on its effectiveness from prior research and ongoing program evaluation techniques.
The objective of the project is to develop a proactive professional skill-building tool for faculty, students and staff groups. REI facilitates a series called with Respect, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) training each academic year, which is grounded in the legal framework of the Ontario Human Rights Code and emphasizes the value of campus community members championing equity, diversity and inclusion principles. By incorporating SPM into the REDI training workshop, participants will have an opportunity to share whether their knowledge and skills were enhanced through live interaction and engagement in dialogue with professional actors.
---
Who should participate?
Participants of this research project will include York University students, staff and faculty who have:

About the Session:
Date | Monday, November 30, 2020
Time | 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Participants will be invited to attend zoom training session, where they will listen and engage in presentation on human rights, specifically focused on concerns about racism and racial discrimination
During the training session, the participants will be provided with a case scenario that will be acted out by Simulated Persons (SP). They will then be asked to interact with the SP, to address the issues presented to them, to come to the best possible outcome. They will be supported by a facilitator, who will enable ‘pause-consult-resume simulation’ options for participants.
At the conclusion of the training session, the participants will be asked to complete an exit survey, via SurveyMonkey that details their experience in the session and provides feedback for researchers to incorporate the SP methodology into the REDI training, going forward.
Registration is limited.
