Pilot Episode: PRIDE Kick off 2022
In part 1 of this pilot episode on PRIDE, the REI Team including Lisa Brown, Miriam Greenblatt, Melissa Theodore, Zhaleh Afshar and Carolina Ruiz talk about the PRIDE Kick off event at Vari Hall that took place on June 2. This is followed by recorded audio footage of the flag drop at Vari. (17:24 minutes)
In part 2, the team talks about the other important PRIDE celebrations they attended. We hear from Dirk Rodricks, Director of Student Engagement, who speaks about the significance of the PRIDE flag's new colors as well as the rationale and thinking behind opting for a flag drop instead of a flag raising event. We also hear the PRIDE message by York Federation of Students' Vice President Campaigns & Advocacy, Marsha Joseph during the student led flag drop that happened at the Student Centre on Jun 3. The team talks about the event at Glendon campus that followed a week after and we end by playing messages about PRIDE and Inclusion from some York community members. (23:51 minutes)
Remember: One thing to do during Pride Month and beyond that will make you an all-around better ally or community member is to educate yourself on the history of Pride.
