Indigenous Land
Everyone in the York University community has participated in a Land Acknowledgement, and it is fair to say, many of us do this on a fairly regular basis. We know that our campus sits on Indigenous territories. But, have you ever been curious enough to learn more about our campus' Indigenous history? This video by Doug Woods features the reflections of Jesse Thistle about the erasure of Indigenous history and presence at the Black Creek Pioneer Village heritage site. Archeologically, Black Creek is not just York's neighbouring community, but actually forms part of what was Huron-Wendat villages and farm land.
